Since 1989, NB Wood Products in Ford City, Pennsylvania has produced handrails, moldings, kitchen cabinets and other custom wood items, primarily for the manufactured home industry. Starting with raw maple, red oak, hickory, ash and cherry hardwoods, NB Wood Products uses computer-driven woodworking equipment and a sophisticated finishing system to complete its production process.
When the housing market nose-dived in 2008, NB lost half of its customer base and reduced its labor force from 108 to a current 45 employees, as triblive informs MHProNews. The subsequent introduction of inexpensive Chinese imports has now driven NB to highlight its quality workmanship and materials, and expand its customer base to include residential kitchen renovations and commercial office cabinetry.
General Manager Joe Goldcamp says, “We’re trying to grow those segments so we are not completely dependent on manufactured housing.” While there is only one shift working presently, Goldcamp anticipates adding a second shift as spring and summer production increases. ##
