As follow-up to a story MHProNews posted March 19, 2015 regarding multifamily manufactured housing (MH) units, the Manufactured Housing Association for Regulatory Reform (MHARR) tells MHProNews the General Subcommittee of the Manufactured Housing Consensus Committee (MHCC) unanimously approved a proposal to establish standards for the homes.
Previously, HUD warned any multifamily MH built would not be covered by HUD standards, and would be subject to fines and civil penalties. The General Subcommittee has now approved a multi-unit MH composed of up to three distinct and separate living units, or dwellings, providing all health and safety codes are met.
The proposals approved by the Subcommittee would define “dwelling unit” as “a single unit providing complete independent living facilities for one or more persons.” The proposal will be considered by the full MHCC at its meeting in Washington, D.C. the week of Aug. 17, 2015. ##
