Earlier this month, Baptist News Global (BNG) featured a column by Rev. Ivory Mewborn on the topic of “Manufactured homes and just zoning laws can transform working poor.”
Mewborn’s column was published by BNG at about the same time as an article by minister and author Todd Thomason entitled “The U.S. wealth gap presents both a political challenge and a spiritual problem.” Mewborn’s is strong and directly addresses the injustice of limiting manufactured housing. Thomason’s raises an related topic, but does so in a manner that doesn’t mention manufactured homes. These are topics that industry-leading trade publications MHLivingNews and MHProNews has addressed repeatedly.
That backdrop noted, BNG has published a new column on 11.17.2021 that specifically weaves the two themes raised by Mewborn and Thomason together, while bringing in a range of new factual, historic, and other insights that elevated manufactured homes in the process.

The connection between the wealth gap, monopolies, affordable housing and biblical truths
The first 346 words that follow the headline “The U.S. wealth gap presents both a political challenge and a spiritual problem” on Baptist News Global by Todd Thomason are packed with data that Christians of all stripes should carefully consider. The conclusion he lays out beginning with the subh

Manufactured housing is underperforming during an affordable housing crisis. This is a fact that the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) simply can’t avoid. MHI has many times the budget and staff of this platform. With their budget, why are they posturing without actually doing, year after year?
At what point will MHI invest in effective litigation to get good laws enforced that could open up millions of new affordable manufactured home sales?

On the topic above, if MHI merely announced that they would sue as needed in an effective way to stay that threat, that alone might cause that threat to end. On the other topics linked from that same report, MHI is years behind the curve of what Tiny House Hands Up and the Institute of Justice did.
Whether MHI, their dominating brands, or state affiliates act or not, the next phase of the battle for affordable housing has begun. MHProNews and MHLivingNews will continue to press the case inside the industry’s ranks.
But the next phase is to get other media outlets to focus on these issues.
The next phase will also include pressing with public officials for accountability of MHI and their dominating brands for the apparent acts of monopolization, perjury, fraud, deceptive trade practices, and more.
Or as Cornell University Legal Information Institute stated:
“Every person who shall monopolize, or attempt to monopolize, or combine or conspire with any other person or persons, to monopolize any part of the trade or commerce among the several States, or with foreign nations, shall be deemed guilty of a felony, and, on conviction thereof, shall be punished by fine not exceeding $100,000,000 if a corporation, or, if any other person, $1,000,000, or by imprisonment not exceeding 10 years, or by both said punishments, in the discretion of the court.”
Justice may not always be swift. But when enough attention is given to an issue, as understanding grows, it is no surprise when the public and public officials get aroused and eventually act to make justice a reality. In the eternal sense, justice is always a reality. BNG merits praise for spotlighting these issues. Let’s see where this spreads among people of good will and people of faith. ##
