Consider overlooked opportunities (and disguised threats…), such as the over 30 billion dollars ones showcased in Removing the Blinders.
Indeed, we as professionals need to be focused on raising the bar so we can drive more business in 2013. The indicators are that we can successfully drive more sales. As Midwest Manufactured Housing Federation (MMHF) Chairman Ron Thomas, Sr. said at the 2012 Louisville Show, we have a new base line and we are collectively moving up from that base line of 50,000+/- shipments.
That said, we would be foolish to ignore the challenges which still hold us back. We need to be pro-active and work on the legislative issues outlined in Phenomenal Solutions!
We also need to recognize that while we have great opportunities, we have allowed ourselves to be Painted into a Corner by media, politicos and others. We should not allow ourselves as professionals to be hung up by forces which we can influence.
Parallel Paths
We need to become more nimble and adept at offering protection at the MH state and community association level, but also at promoting our image. PEP = Protect, Educate and Promote. Business building education has to start internally, but must also be external, geared toward officials, the media and public too.
Bottlenecks are caused when only one road or lane is available and traffic is heavy. Parallel paths have to be used, as savvy professionals do inside and outside our Industry. You can bet that Clayton Homes is engaged in a number of the issues noted above, as are others in our industry. Does your business, or is your association, putting the principles of PEP and parallel paths to work?
Some will continue to suffer, and sadly, some businesses that fail to adapt will continue to fold.
But as regular readers are seeing, step by step, we are 'building the case' why forward looking manufactured home professionals can experience their best year in half a decade. This is the time to for savvy pros to start seriously raising the bar.
