There are promising developments in manufactured housing and more in the making. We will review in rapid sequence a few of these, such as the industry's political efforts, Louisville and others in the paragraphs that follow.
We've hinted for weeks, and now can openly spotlight, that MHI has been working with 3 consumer groups in support of reforms of the regulations that the CFPB would otherwise implement as a result of Dodd-Frank and the SAFE Act.
Read this guest article by Jason Boehlert, Vice President of Regulatory Affairs at the Manufactured Housing Institute in the DC suburb of Arlington, VA.
With that support of these three key consumer groups, you have an extra piece of ammunition to contact your congressman. If I didn't already have both of my congressman on board (not a typo, I'll explain shortly), let me suggest an email or phone call and say,
"We'd like your support for HR 1779, which will protect existing consumer financing that will otherwise be lost in mid-January 2014. 3 consumer groups, both national manufactured housing associations and associations and thousands of businesses in 49 states support reforms. This will protect the home value of some 23 million manufactured home residents, while it protects and will help grow jobs too.”
At the time I wrote this, the industry now has 71 Congressman signed on. This is WAY better than last year! We have some MoMentum.
If you haven't already acted, please for the sake of your busyness and those millions of home owners, don't delay any longer. Just do it.
For tactical purposes, some insiders tell us that getting to 120 co-sponsors would be great. States associations such as Misssissippi and Oklahoma – ably led by executives Jennifer Hall and Deanna Fields – have with engaged their members to engage Congress.
That pair of state execs have 100% of their Congressional delegations sign on! How about your state? Where is your action plan – like Jim Ayotte's in Florida – to get more or all signed on?
We can do this, if YOU do this. Tim Williams at 21st has made an impassioned, intelligent plea for this! Help other help you sell more homes and protect the value of some 9 million pre -code mobile homes and post HUD Code manufactured homes.
-
You call or mail your congressman.
-
THEN, get EVERYONE in your office of location to do it.
-
Then get your accountant and banker to do it.
-
Then, ask every past customer to do it.
-
Be a part of the grass roots leadership needed to make this a manufactured housing success story.

(Editor's Note: MHI's statement at this link here was apparently premature. Consumer groups in fact did NOT get on board with HR 1779, as sources tell MHProNews that said groups stated in a meeting with the CFPB and MHI that they wanted 'more data.' MHProNews has since editorially clarified that at the link here.)
