If not for the Crusaders, Europe would have been speaking Arabic and Turkish centuries ago.
If not for Thomas Edison's incredible gumption to hang in there for some 10,000 failed efforts before he succeed at making an electric light bulb, you would have gas or candle light in your house.
If not for the courage of patriots who began by tossing British tea bags into Boston harbor over a tax rate so low that we would stand and cheer to enjoy it now, we would be speaking the King's English and there would be no U.S.A. today.
Crusaders are always the ones who change the world!
Our industry and nation needs more visionary and courageous crusaders.
The so-called federal “shut down” may be a huge blessing in disguise. If the truth is well told, millions of Americans might, just might, wake up and realize that we don't have to have a cradle-to-the-grave robbing Big Brother government.
If the truth is well told, millions may realize that we won't default on our outrageously rising debts, because as a former Office of Management and Budget official explained, debt service is only about 30 billion monthly, while tax revenues are 250 billion monthly.
Facts can trump fear whenever the truth is well told.
The Problem With Socialism
"The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money." – Margaret Thatcher
Imagine a corporate business leader telling his stockholders that a 17 trillion dollar debt and an 800 billion plus annual deficit was okay. How long would such an executive last? Yet scores of states and local governments, including IL that we recently fled in favor of FL, are traveling a Detroit-like fiscal path towards bankruptcy that harms real people.
Some are hooked on big government and don't event realize it. Part of the reason is millions have been "educated" into ignorance about the political, economic and moral truths that made America great.
Would John F. Kennedy recognize the Democratic party as it exists today?
What would Ronald Reagan say to today's Republicans? (One answer to this question, learn to communicate effectively!)
Kennedy was no paragon of virtue. Reagan went from being OK with abortion to being pro-life. Which is to say these leaders weren't perfect, they were human.
Your editorial commentator here is not a Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, etc., etc.. Anyone expecting perfection here will also be sorely disappointed.
But what we are at MHProNews are committed, independent crusaders who believe our Industry's and our nation's best days can be ahead of us; but only of we have the courage to work for necessary systemic change!
Systemic change will not come without a cost or without effort. A so-called crisis in DC may be just the ticket to start a true dialogue about the direction our nation is headed.
The crisis facing our industry may also be just the ticket for systemic change to discuss how we can profitably transform what the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) Chairman, Nathan Smith, described in Carlsbad CA at their annual meeting as a "boutique" industry into a first-choice housing industry.
Crisis spells Opportunity?
"When written in Chinese, the word 'crisis' is composed of two characters. One represents danger and the other represents opportunity." – John F. Kennedy
At the National Communities Council (NCC) division meeting at the MHI annual event, something interesting took place. Chairman David Lentz asked for comments from the floor about the possible directions the NCC might take. Lentz called for a public discussion, terrific!
Just such a discussion could be raised to a larger industry scale when readers like you opt to share ideas and insights through thoughtful, posted comments or guest columns (letters to the editor) we showcase on the Industry Voices guest blog.
We will draw to a close on this column not with a conclusion, but rather with an invitation for inquiry, study and dialogue.
