We will cover what's up and coming below, but let's start with the notion that everything takes time.
How long does it take to make a decision? Just a moment. But we know from experience that some consider – or procrastinate – for days, weeks, months or years on a decision. Why can some decide quickly, others more slowly or never?
How long does it take to learn or accept a new concept or idea? That tends to take longer. In theory, we may grasp something almost immediately. But often, it takes people time to buy into a new idea.
There have been some off-the-radar discussions about the future of MHCs in the U.S.. It's great for MHRs, MHCs and others that shipments are up ten straight months, a fact we've reported to faithful readers on MHProNews.com from the start of the double digit rate of increased sales trend. But some pros are asking, are we heading for another crash? If so, is it avoidable?
If a challenge is coming, why is it heading our way?
It is tempting to sum the risk up in a single word, regulations. But the reality is, while regulations are a factor, it is more complex than that one word. The importance of the twin efforts that Ronnie Richards described about SNR Denton and the now apparently stalled HR 3849 can't be over stated. How can we get and keep these efforts on track?
Also, we must consider what causes an industry or an industry subset to be targeted for regulations in such volume in the first place?
An objective observer would agree that we would be miles ahead in DC, at the state and local levels if we had large numbers of manufactured home owners lined up beside us. Is that wishful thinking? I don't think so. Don't Saturn owners have car clubs? Don't RVers have their clubs?
By aligning and mobilizing a growing number of manufactured home owners and community residents with the Industry, we are protecting our interests as well as theirs on issues like HR 3849. How can we start such an outreach to MH Owners and the public at large? You can take a peek on the progress at this link here. More on this topic later.
What's Up and Coming.
What's Up already? Associations in places such as Florida and Indiana are taking positive steps at enhancing their value and communications to their members. Florida recently launched a new service for their members that amounts to an image campaign and lead generation service on their website. This can only be a positive effort that is to be applauded. See the partial screen capture below, which will take you to their updated website.
Indiana's association recently brought on board a team member who will be focused on communications and other support issues. They have a new emailed newsletter that is going out routinely to keep their members up to date on issues. This is another positive that I have a hunch will lead to more good things for IMHA members.
We've heard whispers about some positive steps being considered at MHI too. We are keenly interested in what community, state or national associations are doing or considering, so my thanks to all those who keep us posted on those developments.
What's coming?
The Louisville Show 2013 has sent out their initial press release on what's coming up for their show. MHProNews.com are teaming up with Dennis Hill and the fine Show Ways Unlimited team and the MMHF to promote this event that drew reviews so strong last year, that they expanded the space for the show for 2013. Look for new homes, new products, new services, more seminars to build your business and grow your profits in 2013.
Texas Manufactured Housing Association's has their new website up for their upcoming annual event. Take a look at what DJ, Caitlin and company have cooked up for next month to help you grow your business! Business building seminars, lenders, experts and more – along with plenty of Texas hospitality and mixers – will all be on tap. Having attended their event last year, I can only say that I'm looking forward to it again.
If you haven't seen our updates on the Inspiration blog, please check it out. Your 'letters to the Editor' are welcome for Industry Voices, there are some doozies that have come in lately.
I hope to see you in Texas and Louisville. ##
