The Christmas and Chanukah (Hanukkah) holidays are a bit like Thanksgiving in a variety of ways.
They are opportunities for us to reflect on what matters most – the principles that undergird and guide our lives – personally and professionally.
Some like to point to the winter solstice, and say that Christmas is nothing more than a Christian replacement for Roman, Greek and other ancient “pagans,” with their variety of deities. That’s a stunning example of missing the point of these great, historic feasts.
A number of historians agree that the oldest currently existing faith is Judaism, and that Christianity is an offshoot of that ancient faith. Christmas without a doubt is a commemoration of the birth in Bethlehem of Jesus, whom Christians believe to be the Christ.
While each is religion is unique, these two faiths naturally share much in common. Among the commonalities is thanksgiving for the blessings one has in life.
We have a Hanukkah and a Christmas reflections for your holiday weekend consideration.
