The calls, texts and emails that come in privately far outnumber those posted publicly on MHProNews.com. The following are a sampling of recent posted comments.
About Putting the Qualified Mortgage Dilemma in Perspective.
“Ronnie, Good article! This should be sent to all state associations so they can send it to dealers who don't join because they don't think the association is worth it. This reminds me of my favorite Ben Franklin saying, "We either hang together or they will hang us separately!" – Grayson Schwepfinger
(Editor's Note: While I agree with Grayson, my comment on this is that the outreach by associations should also include communities, installers, suppliers, vendors and anyone who does business in the manufactured housing industry.)
“People deserve to hear the positives and negatives so they can be better informed. Media steering news in only one direction does not provide accurate info for those in a particular industry.” – Dale
“The policies that Mr Romney is promising to implement are the exact same policies that put the housing market into the dumpster.
There was a reason why this county did not suffer depressions between the New Deal and the Bush Era. The separation of Banking, Investing, and Insurance interests prevented financial melt downs. Less regulation and mergers of theses sectors progressed from Clinton through Bush, to the point where the only qualifier was greed.
All of us who were selling homes witnessed reckless lenders, protected by government backed products, reaching out to unqualified customers. Basic math left lenders no doubt that many borrowers would default. We even assigned some programs cute names, like "liar loans"… (link to more here)
…Mr Buffett's understanding of our economy has led him to become the most successful business person of our time. If not for his abilities manufactured housing would probably not exist at all today.
His guarantee, behind manufactured housing loans, brought the industry back from our lender melt-(d)own in the 90's. If the other builder wo(u)ld follow his lead manufactured housing could lead the housing recovery. I'm voting with Warren, for manufactured housing, the middle class and Obama.” – JimH
“JimH,
You couldn't be more mistaken, starting with your opening paragraph.
Under President Obama we have a million fewer jobs and over five trillion in new debt. That's a lousy record.
The mortgage meltdown was bi-partisan blunders going back to at least the Clinton years. It was big government lovers in both parties forcing the free market to do what it would not on it's own.
As a result, Canadian net worth no(w) surpasses that of Americans here in the U.S. for the first time.
You don't grow the private sector by choking it with taxes, mandates and regulations. As a successful businessman, Mitt Romney gets that reality.” – Michael

“Lot's of good stuff here Tony. Would especially love to see a more conservative government in all three branches. We just might get something done.” – John D.L. Arendsen
About The 5 Facts:
“Amen. I'd like to add what a recent radio talk show caller said, "Some have said that (the current administration) is like Robin Hood…but Robin Hood took money from the tax collectors and gave it back to those it was taken from". – James
My personal email system gets 200-300 messages in/out daily. Part of those totals are commentary from our readers, typically 'off the record' comments.
Unlike some business to business industry focused websites where no commentary is possible, at MHProNews we believe that allowing posted comments is part of furthering the Industry's discussion. Comments can be brief, long or in between. The main things to keep in mind is to keep it polite and professional, plus no spam. Curse words or slander in a post would not be appropriate, but you can agree, disagree or share some other comment that may point a topic in a different direction. So posted comments are welcome.
For those who really want to sound off on an industry related issue in greater depth and to more professionals, a guest column is the way to go. You can send those in with Industry Voices in the subject line, at this link.
Also in the mail bag…A new association?
We've been contacted by professionals out West that have the goal of creating a new trade association. More specifically, what Randy Duggan, Todd Kesseler and others desire to do is promote is the modular side of off-site construction. They've named their effort the Western Off-Site Construction Association (WOSCA). I'm told there has been a positive response. They don't have politics/lobbying in mind, so their stated focus would be promotion and image building. We have asked for a formal statement from them.
In response to their effort, the following “response for publication” has come into our eMail bag,
“While we applaud the entrepreneurial spirit and desire of individuals to further promote modular construction, MBI feels that the industry is already fragmented and these efforts may actually dilute the message and further confuse potential end users. We would encourage companies and individuals with an interest in commercial modular to get involved with MBI and provide input, advise, and expertise in how we can all work together to grow the market-share.”

The two most common starts to a comment message in our eMail bag? “Good Job on…” and
