Fact. While some struggle to survive, others thrive. So the thrivers make it self evident that all the people, tools and resources needed for the great manufactured home revival are within our reach. What is need by more owners, managers and pros at all levels are the vision, belief and attitude necessary to source and apply what works.
It is also self evident that just because one person fails at X, that it doesn't mean that X failed. Not every person who tries out for a team gets on it. Those that failed to make the cut don't invalidate the team, its coach or those who succeeded.
That same principle holds true in business. The fact that person or company A is good at something and another isn't doesn't negate what A has done. It means that those who wish to do what A did must try harder to get that A kind of result!
Too many want a silver bullet, or a magic elixir that you can swallow that makes everything right. Guess what? It isn't there! Or is it…?
Maybe the magic elixir and silver bullets are having the courage and commitment to do discover, learn and do whatever it takes to create the bottom line result all seek. It's about having the open mind to success. More on this later.
Big 65th
The Iowa Manufactured Housing Association 65th annual event was an energizing experience. Experts from NY, TX, MN, MD, IA and IL gathered to share with forward looking attendees opportunities and solutions in today's market.
The following from their association state executive Joe Kelly came in as a post event message. It is used here with his blessings.
"Tony,
If we're going to talk special, you're it. Your unabashed enthusiasm was really contagious. Your belief in and knowledge of the industry is profound. You have a unique manner of bringing people together.
You were responsible for most of our programming this year. We've had great meetings in the past. However, this meeting will be hard to beat in that the perfect speakers were found for the precise topics we needed to hear.
No matter what the capacity might be, I believe our members will be disappointed if their friend, Tony, isn't in West Des Moines, Iowa next November.
From Neil Diamond to Irving Berlin, Tony K knows his way around the lyrics, and the melody stays true.
I'll get you the information you requested.
Also, if you e-mail me the pictures, I can make sure that each individual gets the picture and that you asked me to send it to them on your behalf.
Joe"
Well, for those who didn’t attend, here is the link to the Speakers and Topics we had. Also let me clarify Joe Kelly's Diamond-Berlin reference. We did a little sing-a-long, thanks to the thoughtful idea of association president Troy Hames. We honored veterans like Curt Hames and all rose, sang God Bless America and everyone was applauding as we finished.
It was a grand time with good people. Bottom line Solutions and MH Events don't have to be boring!
Guy Kawasaki
Wikipedia calls Guy Kawasaki the “former Apple evangelist.” Kawasaki (born August 30, 1954) made his name as a Silicon Valley venture capitalist, bestselling author, and Apple Fellow.
Jim Young at EDS (Electronic Data Systems Corporation, started by Ross Perot) called Kawasaki's book, Selling the Dream
“A provocative, entertaining, and pragmatic must-read book. If you want to make a difference in your company, this (is) your handbook."
This idea of being an 'evangelist' for your business is but one piece of the puzzle for the breakthrough. Imagine having customers so pleased that they 'evangelize' manufactured housing and community living as if we were selling the ever-popular iPhone! People standing in line, waiting for the next model of iPad, iPhone or other Apple product to go on sale.
That ought to be manufactured homes. It can be. We have a great industry with an amazing product! We need to learn how to turn more of our residents and customers into “evangelists.” That is just one piece of the puzzle for the Great MHIndustry Revival.
As we discussed in Cedar Rapids, Iowa earlier this week, by using the right systems, we can get:
> Phones Ringing
> Doors Swinging
> Cash Registers Cha-chinging
> So Customers, Business Owners and Professionals are all Singing!
Yes, we can and should be Singing – literally and figuratively – all the way to the bank.
Zig Ziglar
Zig said it well. You can get everything out of life you want if when you help enough other people get out of life what they want.
We are talking about delivery, not empty promises.
Reading is great and necessary. But when people hear a message or see something, many more have the light bulb to off over their heads. The question that logically follows is will those who see then do what it takes?
Often the 80-20 rule kicks in…
Some are thriving. Others surviving. Which group sounds more appealing? FYI, a number of other thoughtful messages came in from Iowa, besides the one shown from Joe Kelly. My thanks to all who have called or messaged. Being with a fine group like that energizes me.
I'm behind on posting photos for Pinterest from the RV-MH Hall of Fame, the Texas Manufactured Housing Association annual event and the Manufactured Housing Institute's (MHI) annual meeting. But once a few hours of opens up, we will post those photos Joe Kelly mentioned in his message above taken at the Iowa Manufactured Housing Association annual event too. The plan is to have a page created for each event. Then we will have some fun and ask you to 'name that pro!'
The Next Big Thing
The Louisville Manufactured Housing Show is the next big event. Let's break this down into two phases.
A Special Pre-Show Event.
The Clayton Homes family of factory built home companies, the National Communities Council of MHI and our resident expert featured writer Rob Coldren at the HK&C Law Firm are already committed to sponsoring a pre-show event that designed to 'broaden the base' and bring new blood into the manufactured housing industry! Learn more about that by emailing me at tony@mhmsm.com.
The MUST Do At Show Events
The Louisville Show is now the undisputed largest all-indoor factory-built housing event in the U.S.!
I haven't asked our Industry friends and peers in Canada yet, but I'm not aware of anything the size of Louisville there, which would make the Louisville Show the largest such event in North America too.
Make sure you read the What People Are Saying blog on the Louisville Show's website to stay abreast of all the latest news there. Links to the blog are near the bottom of the home page and every other website page too.
Scientia Potentia Est
Scientia Potentia Est is also sometimes written as scientia est potentia. It is a Latin phrase that some translate as the maxim "knowledge is power." The truth is that knowledge is POTENTIAL power. Knowledge is only powerful when we learn and apply it! In the Biblical sense knowledge is intimacy. You become 'one' with what you 'know.' Most Americans know what a touchdown pass looks like – that's an example of the use of our English word 'knowledge.' But it isn't until you or team mate learns how to toss one that the knowledge – the potential – becomes actualized as powerful.
Part of the beauty of the free enterprise system is that when you don't know something yourself, or if you simply don't want to do it yourself, you can still 'hire it done!'
Need an event planned? A new or upgraded website? A marketing or sales boost? See what others say about Results. Kindly visit MHC-MD.com, to see what other pros say – kudos are on almost every page there – then please feel free to call or email me. Those and many other resources are near at hand.
As they learned in Iowa, you can have fun and inspiration that goes along with the profit potential from doing it. ##
