The higher up you go on the ladder, any ladder, the more exposed you become. Some target the person on the ladder out of envy. Some cheer the person that climbs the ladder to mount the roof that has a leak. When you’re trying to do good, you don’t let the jeers stop you. Nor can you allow the cheers to cause you to lose your head and thus your balance.
Fresh from the RV MH Hall of Fame induction dinner, I had the pleasure of Tom – the artist! – and his wife Joanne Stevens, MHC brokerage guru – at our table. We listened to the inductees – or their speakers, if those honored couldn’t make it – who are named in this article. There were fun, interesting, touching and quizzical moments laced through the fine mixer and dinner Monday evening.
Let me give a special shout-out to an incredible fellow, Darryl Searer, who volunteers full time to promote the Hall’s important work. He’s done an amazing job! The Hall’s debt has plummeted under his leadership. Barry Cole and others work tirelessly, as does the Spirit Award winner Don Magary. Don uses his publishing and PR talents to boost the Hall, a quiet, great gent.
While applauding all the honored ones, let me tip the hat to my industry colleague, part-time mentor, inspirational, musical, humorous and wise Joe Kelly. The Iowa MH Association‘s executive director is a credit to his profession! Imagine: for 50 years, the Iowa MHAssociation has managed to get pro-Industry legislation passed, along with harmful laws blocked or favorably modified. So Joe’s honor is much deserved, by him and all those who now enjoy the respect earned by being placed into the RV MH Hall of Fame. More on that later, and we’ll be sharing a special guest column by Joe Kelly, that he plans to send us soon.
What will be the next, MH Marketing Craze?
Let’s turn to for a moment to a concept some might point to as my latest example of insanity. Others, will get it and will share it widely.
In a new OpEd on Industry Voices, Victor Frost comments on the value of music as a way to connect with the MH audience.
The points and take aways are many. The article he’s commenting on is linked from his column. Let’s pass along one of the lessons from this to leave with you on other MH Pros today.
We can turn almost anything into an opportunity of how to Protect-Educate-Promote manufactured housing. I thanked Joe Monday for sharing the PEP phrase with me, though he modestly said, ‘Tony, you came up with that one.’ I think sometimes people don’t realize they’ve said something profound.
It’s my good fortune from publishing and from consulting to hear golden nuggets, insightful comments and powerful gems from scores upon scores of seasoned veterans and rising, ‘young lion’ industry pros. In turn, I share those insights with you and so many others, always happy to credit the source of the wisdom.
Please watch the videos Victor is commenting on, and read the message on that page. If you think we’re nuts to believe that Simon and Garfunkel could sell some extra MHs, hey, write an article that explains why, as we’re certainly willing to share another perspective.
Because that’s what we do here. Share MH Industry News, Tips and Views Pros Can Use. (C) Your idea might be much better, so bring it on! By working together, we advance. The most common theme Monday night from Joe Kelly and others Hall of Fame inductees? How critical team work is for the success they achieved. TEAM – Together, Everyone Achieves More!
Team work is a little like working in an MH factory. It takes all kinds. ##
