The News and Sentinel says Washington County, Ohio, has higher rates for the annual inspection and licensing fees for manufactured housing than adjoining Athens County. Because of a new state law, third-party inspectors can operate anywhere in the state. The Washington County Building Department in Marietta said it will lower its fees by $125 to $475 to better compete. Under the new regulation, the fees for neighboring Noble and Monroe counties will be $535. The board received input regarding the fee schedule from the Manufactured Homes Commission of Ohio (MHCO), and the county commissioners are expected to enact the proposal. Requests for permits are down this year, but the county has budgeted for fees from 100 homes in the fiscal year ending June 30.
