FYR-TV in Bismarck, North Dakota says the combination of the Souris River flooding in Minot, ND last year and the ongoing oil boom in western ND is creating a huge demand for manufactured and modular housing from Minot to Williston and the surrounding area, especially since contractors are so busy. Mike Jensen, sales manager of Iseman Homes in Minot, says, “We’ve added sales people on staff here, we’ve added delivery crews and we’re doing everything we can to keep up.” At one time manufacturers would not allow changes to factory-built homes, but now he says as long as it fits in the space the producer will customize the plans. Ronald Johnson, who lost his home to the flood, says some people could not afford the real estate and the house so they turned to factory-built housing. As MHProNews noted in a story published June 12, 2012, the Federal Emergency Management Agency brought in over 2000 temporary homes following the flood.
