The Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET), an organization with no telephone contact number or physical address on its Internet website, announced in a January 28, 2015, news release that it has formed a “Modular and Manufactured Housing Rating Quality Assurance Standard Task Force” in connection with its “Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Index” program.
Noting that “HERS ratings of modular and manufactured home (sic) presents a separate set of challenges for quality assurance oversight,” the RESNET document refers to “a national recruitment effort for volunteers to serve on the task force,” focused on the “members of RESNET’s direct email distribution network,” as well as postings on “social media.”
The stated purpose of this new group is to recommend DOE adoption of “new manufactured home energy standards.” MHARR believes these will easily add thousands of dollars to the cost of new manufactured homes which already have updated and efficient home energy standards.
