Following up on a story we published May 5, the North County Times says the Oceanside, California City Council voted 3-2 to reaffirm two earlier votes ending rent control for the residents of the 18 Land Lease Communities in Oceanside. The ordinance would apply only to new occupants of the communities going forward, while retaining rent control for current residents. Mayor Jim Wood, who voted against the ruling, said it comes at a bad time because of the poor economy. Residents say they will start a petition drive to overturn the ordinance. The City Clerk says the petitioners have until June 23 to collect 7,670 signatures of registered voters in order to have the council reconsider, or put it to a referendum by the voters.
