Responding to an article in newschief concerning the push by manufactured housing community (MHC) residents in Fla. to limit rent hikes, the writer argues that homeowners should gain from the equity they put into their homes when they try to sell it. Currently, when a home changes hands the site rent increases, and residents complain the increase deters people from buying the home. Knowing this, they are not motivated to fix up their homes because it is a waste of money, which can lead to unsavory conditions in the community. In extreme cases, the homeowner just walks away, losing everything. As MHProNews has learned, the writer says there needs to be more of a balance that is fair to all.
