As follow-up to a story we posted Aug. 7, 2012 about the Clawson Mobile Home Park in Boone, North Carolina closing Oct. 4, 2012 and being sold to developers who will erect student housing, the WataugaDemocrat says the Boone Planning Commission voted in favor of the rezoning request. Developer of the 10 building, 266-unit complex, Mega Builders of Greensboro, NC agreed to specific pedestrian and traffic improvements as well as a six-foot fence and the planting of evergreen trees. While Appalachian State University’s (ASU) Vice Chancellor for Student Development Cindy Wallace said there is no need for more student housing, Frank Forde of Mega Builders disagreed, saying there will be 90% occupancy within the first year for the $25 to $30 million project. Clawson’s MHC will close regardless of whether the project is approved or not. MHProNews has learned the Boone Town Council will consider the rezoning request at its Aug 21 meeting.
