4,354 New HUD-Code Homes Shipped in
November 2012 – Down 17.9 Percent from November 2011
MHI’s Monthly Economic Report© for November 2012 is now available.
In November 2012, 4,354 new manufactured homes were shipped, down 17.9 percent from November 2011. For the fourth consecutive month, shipments by housing type moved in opposite directions with single section homes down 35.5 percent compared with the same month last year, while shipments of multi-section homes increased by 8.1 percent.
In comparison with the previous year, 2012 recorded shipment increases every month from January through August. September marked the first month of a decline in shipments with the downward trend continuing through the months of October and November. Industry shipments for the year-to-date stand at 51,378 homes compared with 47,768 homes in the previous year, a net increase of 7.6 percent. A total of 6,723 floors were shipped in the month, a decrease of 10.2 percent compared with November 2011.
The seasonally adjusted annual rate (SAAR) of shipments was 55,289 in November 2012, down 1.9 percent from the October 2012 pace of 56,373 homes. The SAAR corrects for normal seasonal variations in shipments and projects annual shipments based on the current monthly total.
The number of plants reporting production in November was 123 and the number of active corporations was 45, both up one from the prior month.
