According to the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) Week in Review, MHI-PAC will host a fundraising luncheon for Senator Olympia Snowe (R-ME) on Feb. 16. Representative Snowe is a key Member of the Finance, Commerce, Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committees and a friend of the industry. Senator Snowe has been a supporter of manufactured housing for many years. She was a driving force behind the enactment of the Energy Star tax credit (Section 45L) for manufactured homes, which was signed into law in December. The two year extension, through the end of 2011, will allow manufactured home producers to claim a $1,000 federal income tax credit for each home qualifying for the Energy Star label. Also retained is the $2,000 credit available to all homes (site built, modular and manufactured) that exceed by 50 percent the requirements of the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC).
