The Manufactured Housing Institute’s (MHI) Monthly Economic Report, states shipments of single-section and multisection homes jumped 42.1 percent Jan. 2012 over Jan. 2011, to 3,945 new homes. Single section homes accounted for 53.9 percent of the increase. The seasonally adjusted annual rate of shipments (SAAR) increased 6.0 percent, to 61,082 Jan. over the previous month. Total floors shipped climbed 38.3 percent Jan. 2011 to Jan. 2012 to 5,972. One more manufacturer closed shop, reducing to 121 the number of operating plants, and the number of manufacturing companies remained steady at 45.
