theherald-nc reports the owner of the Lighthouse Christian Academy in Smithfield, North Carolina had to close the school because of the economy, and unable to find a church to help cover the cost of the mortgage on the modular building, decided to make it a boarding house to accommodate ten people. Diane Gilleland already had one tenant when 80 names on a petition was brought before the Johnston County Commissioners opposing the boarding house, fearful of who might be attracted to live there. Although she had planned to do background checks and require an extensive application, MHProNews.com has learned the commissioners denied her request for rezoning but agreed to allow the single tenant to remain in the modular home as long as the building meets housing codes.
