Following a story MHProNews last posted May 19, 2014 regarding a seven-story modular apartment building that opened in the far northern reaches of Manhattan in New York called The Stack, the Modular Building Institute honored it as the August 2014 Modular Building of the Month. Designed by Gluck+, and developed by Kimberly Frank and Jeffrey Brown, the 56 modules comprising the 28 apartments were manufactured by Deluxe Building Systems in Berwick, Pennsylvania and shipped to the Inwood section of Manhattan where a foundation, basement and first floor had been prepared, according to cpexecutive.com. It required 19 days, eight construction workers and one crane to assemble the modules, and two more months to install the mechanical systems and the facade. Six of the apartments are reserved for affordable housing. MHProNews understands there are 40 modular projects that have been filed and are waiting for approval from the New York City Department of Buildings. Two other modular development are already underway in NYC: The massive 32 story apartment complex in the Atlantic Yards of Brooklyn, and My Micro New York, a smaller modular unit in the Kips Bay neighborhood. ##
