Updating the post MHProNews published Dec. 2, 2012 regarding the modular homes for the homeless in Dublin, Ireland, the Drimnagh Residents Association has warned the Dublin City Council that it may take legal action against Environment Minister Alan Kelly’s plans to site 29 homes on an empty lot on Curlew Road, according to what irishexaminer tells MHProNews.
Association President Peter Burke said the property was given to the council by the Sisters of Mercy in 2007 with the proviso that the elderly would have new homes there. He adds there was a formal agreement eight years ago, but no homes were built due to the recession. The council has set up a consultation group to study the matter further.
While homes on Curlew are not scheduled for building until summer, the 22 modular homes to be occupant-ready before Christmas at Ballymun hit a snag when protesters shut down the worksite temporarily, claiming the site is for a cooperative low-income housing complex. The project has also been slowed by recent heavy rains, yet Mr. Kelly maintains at least some of the homes will be completed before Christmas. ##
