MHProNews has learned from wvmetronews that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has stated some 5,500 homes and businesses have been impacted by the severe flooding in West Virginia, and of those, 1,500 are homes damaged beyond repair.
President Barack Obama declared West Virginia a disaster area and made expanded funding available for three of the hardest-hit counties: Greenbrier, Kanawha and Nicholas Counties.
FEMA has already distributed some funds so those rendered homeless can find places to live, while state and federal officials are pondering bringing in modular homes and setting up communities, although no definite decision has been made. So far the death toll stands at 24. ##
