A proposal before the Affordable Housing Committee in Bluffton, South Carolina would replace 24 pre-HUD Code homes with new modular homes, ranging from a one-bedroom, 600 square foot home to a four bedroom model with 2,000 square feet. According to islandpacket.com, prospective owners could make no more than 120 percent of the area’s median income in order to receive funding through the Affordable Housing Initiative. A family of four would have to earn under $80,400 annually in order to qualify for a 1,520 square foot, three-bedroom, two bath home that costs $84,000. The price does not include site preparation and utility hook-ups, for which the buyers would have to pay 60 percent plus the cost of demolition of their old home. Upon approval of the committee, as MHProNews.com has learned, the town council would then have to give it their stamp of approval in order for it to move forward. ##
