Over four-and-one-half years after Tropical Storm Irene tore through Waterbury, Vermont, destroying 11 manufactured homes (MH) with waist deep water, developer Bob Baker with Paramount Homes is replacing the damaged units with 11 modular homes he will rent out.
“As strong Vermonters, we just rebuild and that’s what we’re doing. It feels good to get people more housing, more affordable housing, and to get this area cleaned up,” says Baker, according to mychamplainvalley.
Waterbury Community Planner Steve Lotspeich says the project was approved under the flood hazard area regulations, and the homes are up on piers, and all the utilities are elevated as well.
Three of the homes have already been sited, and construction on the remaining eight has just begun. Baker is putting in $1 million as the sole funder, as MHProNews has learned. ##
