CBCNews of Alberta, Canada, says the Alberta government is sending 350 modular homes to the residents of Slave Lake, Alberta, following the wildfire that devastated half of the town in May. The first homes will go to those who had no insurance or were under insured, according to provincial housing minister Jonathan Denis. In addition to the town hall, library, and government center, 371 properties were destroyed and 52 were damaged. The wind-whipped fires left little time to save possessions, and many escaped with only the clothes they were wearing. Those rendered homeless have been staying in motels at government expense, and will be the first to occupy the modular units. The provincial government is covering the $100 million cost for the modular homes.
