Modular Hospital Built Quickly

California’s MyMotherLode informs MHProNews.com an Angels Camp, CA company helped replace a hospital that was destroyed during the May 22, 2011 F5 tornado that hit Joplin, Missouri, killing 161 people. Aspen Street Architects assisted in the design of the 150,000 square foot modular building composed of 224 structural steel components, taking only 8.5 months to complete. It is the largest and mostly quickly constructed acute care hospital in the nation. According to John Farnen, Mercy Hospital’s executive director of planning, design and construction, “The steel construction modular hospital is 30 percent stronger than Mercy’s previous facility in Joplin and has glass ratings that can withstand winds up to 200 mph, which exceeds building code requirements.”
