Modular Housing Development Denied

Following a story MHProNews last posted April 4, 2014, regarding a modular housing development proposal in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada, the city council declined the housing recommendation from the Municipal Planning Commission for 85 modular homes. Voting 7-1 against, the council said the area is too close to an industrial site and would hinder future industrial development, according to medicinehatnews.com. The modular developer says the 15 acres have been vacant since 1976 and are only drawing farm tax at the moment, which is not very high. Bring in a community and you receive more tax revenue. Who knows when industrial expansion may occur. Councilwoman Julie Friesen, saying she is concerned about putting residences in isolated areas near industrial sites, adds, “It would only be a matter of time before those residents came to the city asking for noise cessation, sidewalks, parks … and they would have every right.” ##
