Plans to site 166 new modular homes in a proposed development in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on both sides of the South Alouette River are raising concerns with nearby residents—and the eyebrows of district staff. The increased density for the area would move from 2.5 residential units per hectare (nearly 2.5 acres) to over 40 per hectare, according to what mapleridgenews.com tells MHProNews. Homes in the acre are now on acre lots, and the development would also eliminate a horse trail. The district would have to alter its official community plan but would not need to amend Metro Vancouver’s regional growth strategy to accommodate the development. Single level homes are popular in the marketplace especially for empty-nesters. MHProNews has posted stories of several modular buildings in Vancouver. The city council will look at the application Sept. 15. ##
