Ghana, in West Africa is beginning a 5,000 modular housing project to provide affordable housing in Sege, in the Dangme East District. Deputy Minister for Water Resources, Works and Housing, Sampson Ahi says building will begin next month. A Brazilian construction company will install the homes which are being built by Red Sea Housing Services Ghana Limited at Tema. Constructed of steel with insulated panels, Mark Sumner of Red Sea says steel houses are cheaper than concrete homes and will last up to 25 years without major maintenance. As allafrica informs MHProNews, the modular project will also provide numerous jobs. Sumner adds, “The insulated panels used in covering the walls reduce electricity costs as it keeps the room cool by keeping out the heat, it does not deteriorate, it is bacteria-free and does not need re-painting.”
