While MHProNews has been following the stop and go development of modular homes to replace emergency accommodations for the homeless in Dublin, Ireland, as we last reported Dec. 18, 2015, Fingal County Council CEO Paul Reid is defending plans for 40 modular housing units for the homeless in Balbriggan, just north of Dublin on the Irish Sea.
He says it is part of a larger plan for 100 modular homes across the county, according to independent.ie, and that the council intends to provide 1,600 units of social housing (low-income housing) between 2015 and 2017 in the county.
Noting some of the councillors had objected to the plans, Mr. Reid said he intends to keep them apprised of the modular home project, as the council must show leadership in pursing the continuing needs of providing social housing. He added, “The scale of the problem we are facing needs us to take a leap of leadership on this, across the board. We are not going to avoid this issue, we are going to take it on and deliver on it.” ##
