MHProNews.com has learned from MassLive the Blu Homes factory in East Longmeadow, Massachusetts, which opened in 2010, has closed and production facilities have relocated to Vallejo, California. While the sales office and design studio will remain in Waltham, MA, spokeswoman Dana Smith says, “It’s not about what went wrong in Longmeadow, it’s about what went right in California.” She says the demand for modular homes is larger on the west coast and it doesn’t make sense to ship the homes cross-country. As we reported here Dec. 1, 2011, Blu opened their facility in CA last month. Some of the 40 employees will be offered the opportunity to shift to the west coast site. Smith says there will be a need for an east coast location at some point in the future, but gave no more details.
