The obvious reverse side of that story is that many are rising, and some states are experiencing above average new home shipment growth rates.
One of those comparatively bustling states is Georgia.
Jay Hamilton, Executive Director of the Georgia Manufactured Housing Association, tells MHProNews that, “ScotBilt Homes, one of Georgia’s premier HUD Code and Modular manufacturers currently maintains a 16-week backlog. Many of these homes are shipped in neighboring states as well.”
The Augusta Chronicle reported, “A South Georgia manufactured home builder broke ground Thursday on a 128,000-square-foot plant in Millen, Ga., where it expects to employ up to 100 full-time workers by year’s end.”
Comparing Market Trends
There were 10 states in March, 2017 – per IBTS – that had 12 or fewer total new HUD Code manufactured homes (single-sectional and multi-sectional combined) shipped to them.
By contrast, in that same month, Georgia had 288 new homes shipped within its borders. To underscore Hamilton’s point, Georgia production centers shipped a total of 488 homes, a total of 817 floors.
Only 9 states that month topped Georgia’s totals.
Notable Scotbilt Pride
“Mr. Sam Scott and Mr. Shea Jones are excited about the opening of this new facility, because not only does it benefit their customer base, but it also will employ many who were left without jobs when the former plants were closed due to the economic recession that began in 2008,” said Hamilton to MHProNews.
“We want to be a long-term member of Millen and the surrounding community,” General Manager Dale Gilliland told the Chronicle.
Millen Mayor King Rocker, who doubles as the chairman of the Jenkins County Development Authority, called the Scotbilt’s groundbreaking a “great day for our community.”
ScotBilt is owned by CEO Sam Scott, President Greg Scott and Board Chairman Sherry Scott. The company now employs about 250 in Waycross. ##
