The Register-Guard of Oregon reports the Manufactured Housing/Oregon State Tenants Association (OSTA), primarily an advocacy group for residents of manufactured housing, has set its sights on helping disadvantaged students in public schools with meals, supplies, and support. Each community across the state has been asked to adopt a school and determine the needs. Some residents have knitted scarves and hats for students, another community bought and gift-wrapped books from a local bookstore to give students for Christmas, in some cases that child’s only gift. Residents at one community donated easily-prepared food for students to eat during their break, since some get two meals a day at school and might not have food at home. Several communities have already signed up and several more have expressed interest. Manufactured Housing/OSTA is hoping to get businesses involved.
