The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) expressed concern to the manufactured housing industry that some on-site attached garages may violate compliance with the federal construction standards and regulations if completed when the home is finished.
The Oklahoma Industry Insight from the Manufactured Housing Association of Oklahoma (MHAO) tells MHProNews that blocking a window or door with the garage, or altering the support structure of, or adding any stress to, the manufactured home would prohibit the sale of the unit by HUD under the code.
Similarly, restricting the soffit ventilation system or damaging the weatherproofing of the home are two other examples of what might break the federal code. In addition, the garage needs to meet all local regulations. Contact your state manufactured housing association for more details. ##
