The former president of Better Built Homes of St. Augustine, Florida has been arrested and now faces eight counts of misappropriating construction funds between $1,000 and $100,000, and one count of larceny. According to staugustine, a release from St. John’s County informs MHProNews William Keith Leary allegedly accepted approximately $500,000 from eight people with no intention of returning the funds or making good on his contract to provide them with modular homes.
The eight separate reports of fraud spanned the year from February 2013 to this February. In October, 2014 the Better Business Bureau that serves northeastern Florida issued a release warning customers that Better Built Homes may be out of business.
Leary allegedly used the money in an attempt to forestall the closing of his business. The BBB attempted to contact him several times after receiving several complaints but to no avail. ##
