Virginia Bufkin’s request to the Aransas Pass City Council in south Texas to rezone a single family district to a manufactured home district so she could build a recreational vehicle (RV) community brought a mix of yeas and nays to the meeting.
Bufkin’s daughter explained that although it would be strictly for RVs, since there is a high demand for RV sites, City Manager Sylvia Carillo said the property could later be sold to someone who could establish a manufactured home community.
Several citizens spoke against the proposal, citing increased traffic, drainage problems and less income for the city. Another remonstrater suggested the land is prime residential property which could bring in more tax dollars if single-family homes were built on the land.
Other citizens spoke against the project as well, while Mayor Adan Chapa, speaking as a citizen, spoke in favor of the issue. The council tabled the issue after Carillo requested city staff develop a complete set of standards for an RV community.
As aransaspasssprogress tells MHProNews, council member Philip Hyatt asked for the new standards to be presented within 60 days. ##
