A pick pocket that is good at their devious and criminal art-form can lift a wallet without the “target” or “mark” realizing it. The fact that some ‘get away with it’ doesn’t tempt the vast majority of Americans to become pickpockets.
In some of the great scams of the 21st century, tens of thousands of investors and millions of people were deceived into thinking some of the “great” corporate and investment leaders were incredibly savvy, “generous” and successful business leaders. That was true almost up to the moment that their various schemes that defrauded so many of billions of dollars came tumbling down.
White collar crimes can be far more damaging than the more common forms of criminal behavior.
Speech and communications are God-given and constitutionally protected rights, but within common sense limits. Deceptive speech or communications designed to defraud are illegal. Lying under oath is illegal too.
So, the accuracy of who said what and for what motivations are recognized by the law. Keep that in mind as you ponder some of the headline topics that follow. Because deceptive speech, behavior and/ or communications designed to defraud others was a common element in each of the great scams of the 21st century. Put differently, larcenous liars are often as smooth as pickpockets.
Words that are deceptive and certain events can become weapons of mass distraction.
There are several important topics explored in the Daily Business News and other reports linked below. But this report will now pivot back to the Democratic primaries. Because a news tip from a Democratic consultant shed some interesting light on what may be developing in that party’s race for their presidential nomination in 2020. What happens in that contest could have significant impact on the manufactured housing industry, investors, affordable housing seekers and manufactured home residents.
Just as coronavirus was a blip on the radar a few weeks ago that has now become a weapon of mass distraction, not so long ago going into the South Carolina primary, Senator Bernie Sanders was deemed as the new Democratic Party contest leader in delegates, votes, small-dollar donations, and polling.
Just days before the SC primary, House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn (SC-D), much beloved in his state – particularly so among the numerous black Democratic voting base there – endorsed Biden. When Biden won decisively, Clyburn stood on stage to introduce him. Clyburn ‘s speech was arguably far more potent than the candidate he was endorsing. In the wake of that win, it was Clyburn among the voices that in so many words said the Biden campaign was a mess.
But that mess of a Biden campaign surprisingly won Super Tuesday and mini-Super Tuesday. Suddenly, it’s Sanders that several pundits portray as being on the ropes, even though Biden continues to stumble over his own words and says sometimes outlandish things to voters that would in fairness dog President Donald Trump if he had said the same things Biden did to someone. So long as the plan doesn’t change, tonight’s televised Democratic debate will be interesting to watch.
Even if numbers of pundits are right, and Biden becomes the nominee, how can hope to beat the 45th president in a debate, many ask? After all, President Donald Trump doesn’t have to worry about Democratic party unity. POTUS will go after Biden on an array of issues that could make Senator Elizabeth Warren’s epic takedown of billionaire Michael Bloomberg pale by comparison.
That could happen, but it may not be reality or necessary. That’s the key takeaway from the news tip. The Democratic National Committee (DNC) rules has a clause that allows for a candidate substitution.
Rephrased, it is possible that Biden is literally a figurehead. A temporary stand-in for whomever the DNC party establishment actually want.
Here is the key portion of the DNC bylaws that make that possible.
Article 2, section 1 of the Rules and Bylaws of the Democratic Party states that the DNC has the authority to fill vacancies in the nominations for president and vice president. “The Democratic National Committee shall have general responsibility for the affairs of the Democratic Party between National Conventions, subject to the provisions of the Charter and to the resolutions or other official actions of the National Convention. This responsibility shall include, but not be limited to … Filling vacancies in the nominations for the office of the President and Vice President,” reads Article 2.1(c).
From page 11 of their rules and bylaws, here is the full section – focus on (c), which we have turned bold for emphasis. Note how open-ended that clause is? It could easily be used, per our source, to replace former VP Joe Biden if the party leaders so desired.
Democratic National Committee
Section 1. Duties and Powers. The Democratic National Committee shall have general responsibility for the affairs of the Democratic Party between National Conventions, subject to the provisions of the Charter and to the resolutions or other official actions of the National Convention. This responsibility shall include, but not be limited to:
(a) Issuing the Call to the National Convention;
(b) Conducting the Party’s Presidential Campaign;
(c) Filling vacancies in the nominations for the office of the President and Vice President;
(d) Assisting state and local Democratic Party organizations in the election of their candidates…”
MHProNews doesn’t claim to know if that is what is going to occur in the Democratic primary. But the tipster clearly thought it relevant to share. It is one of the few things that might make sense, given the dynamics on the Democratic side of the fence.
Just as MHProNews will monitor who bought what in the wake of the bottoming out of the markets during this COVID19/coronavirus crisis, so too we will monitor the outcome of the debates and selection process in the Democratic race.
