A proposal to allow 20 manufactured homes (MH) on an already serviced property that has two MH did not trigger any opposition at a public hearing held at the Bradley Center in Parksville, British Columbia, Canada. According to pqbnews, Area F Director Julian Fell said the neighborhood is a natural hub for lower cost housing, and while there were some early concerns about drainage and access, the issues were successfully addressed by the staff.
“In this area we’re desperately short of lower-end-priced housing and my response is, what’s taken this so long?” Fell said after the April 4 hearing. The property had been identified 20 years ago as a site for a manufactured home community (MHC). There are already two MHCs on two of the property’s borders.
He said the land falls within the Rural Growth Strategy area which calls for higher density occupancy, as MHProNews has learned.. The proposed zoning change from Manufactured Home Park 1.14 to a new designation, Manufactured Home Park 2 (MHP-2) that MHCs will use in the future will include regulations on the design, layout and construction of the proposed community.
A r report on the hearing will be part of the April 26 meeting, at which time the board could take a final vote on the proposal. Parksville lies just west of Vancouver, BC. ##
