The Dodge City (Kansas) Commission listened to a group of south Dodge City residents voice disapproval of plans for a 12 modular home development, with one remonstrater referring to them as “trailers,” saying property values will suffer as the result. According to dodgeglobe.com, the city’s planning and zoning board approved the subdivision. The rising expense of construction has been a barrier to the building of affordable housing, as MHProNews has learned, and the returns from it are less than building medium to high-end housing. Developer Robert Waddell says, “There is a big need for it, and I’m the only one doing it. That’s why I have a waiting list. When I start this project I will be finished in less than 12 months and I’ll have people in them. I’m building affordable housing; it’s what the city needs. If there wasn’t a need for it, I wouldn’t be able to conduct business.” ##
