Although the Cortland MHC in Cortland, Illinois has never been cited for any violation, an environmental inspector discovered several violations of the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) Act and Illinois Pollution Control Board (IPCB) regulations for allegedly discharging raw sewage on the grounds as well as on neighboring properties. Licensed in May of 2013, the manufactured housing community (MHC) is managed by Zeman Homes, which has been named in the enforcement action that is now in the hands of the state attorney-general’s office, according to daily-chronicle.com. The sewage, estimated to have been several thousands gallons worth pumped from a backed-up septic system onto the ground, has seeped into a neighboring cemetery and is fouling the grounds of an adjoining animal hospital. The IEPA is seeking an injunction to force Zeman to immediately clean up the raw sewage and repair the septic system. MHProNews has learned independently Cortland has 102 homesites and was for sale in July, 2013 for $4.2 million. ##
