MHProNews has learned from santaclaritafree that Santa Clarita, California resident Douglas Fraser is trying to rally residents to lobby city council on several issues he says the council has ignored, including one regarding site rents at manufactured home communities (MHCs). He is reaching out to others who also have issues, but he says, “The main rule that the residents are wanting to change is the City’s sponsorship of inflated space rent increases” at manufactured home communities.”
He says the site rents are based on the rise in the consumer price index (CPI), but if it falls below three percent, community owners are allowed a three percent increase. Fraser says, “During the recession, many low income families and seniors received low or no increase in their income, yet the landowners were provided a legal means by the City to increase the rents by an inflated three percent.”
He further alleges the city has shown favoritism toward the MHC owners while ignoring the discontent and concerns of the residents. He says, “We are trying to make it a joint rally for respect.” His Rally for Respect is set for Tuesday, April 14, at Santa Clarita City Hall. ##
