At its April 21 meeting, the Police Jury approved seven rezoning requests that will allow for 470 RV sites and 44 manufactured housing sites in the parish in an attempt to meet temporary housing needs. In Jan. 2014 the Police Jury approved a new zoning classification that created development standards for new RV parks in the parish, differentiating them from the RMHP, manufactured home park.
Wes Crain, parish planning and development director, said that is why they are seeing more applications for RV sites. “People know what (RV parks) look like,” he said. “It’s a typical land use we are used to in this area. Most people are not used to temporary worker villages or don’t know what it is or what it means. An RV park is not considered a man camp.” ##
