LIBN reports from Smithtown on Long Island in New York that Veritas Villages of America plans to build 560 affordable modular homes, apartments and townhouses for U.S. military veterans and their families. Veritas intends to win grants from the federal government to provide veterans housing and qualify for the HUD-VASH (Housing and Urban Development-Veterans Assistance Supportive Housing) voucher program. The company plans to include a clubhouse modeled after an officer’s club, exercise and swimming facilities, banquet rooms, and a convenience store, all modular. Founded by Brian Mahon, a disabled former Marine, Veritas says resources will be made available for any assistance the residents will need, and all on-premise jobs will be filled by veterans. Future plans include providing a wilderness living experience for veterans in remote areas of Idaho, Wyoming, or Arizona.
