A writer posed a question to columnist Roy Booker in the quadcitytimes asking what are the rules regarding siting a manufactured home (MH) on a private lot in several Iowa cities. Ryan Rusnak, in Community Planning & Economic Development for the city of Davenport, said an MH could occupy any lot zoned for a single-family home as long as the home have at least 768 habitable square fee. It must also be at least 24 feet wide for 75 percent of its largest dimension (unless it is in a land lease community).
If sited outside an MHC, it is required to have a permanent UBC approved foundation and converted to real property in accordance with Iowa state code.
Mayor Tim Brandenburg, of Blue Grass, IA said mobile homes are not permitted but the city does have modular homes, then referred Mr. Booker to housing inspector Ray Daufeldt. Mr Daufeldt said, “Blue Grass allows modular homes, not mobile homes; plans have to be submitted with pictorials of the structure.” ##
