MHProNews.com has learned from RealClearPolitics that Alabama Rep. Spencer Bachus, Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee has faced down the toughest opposition of his career, as he begins his 29th year in Congress from the 6th Congressional District in Birmingham. Despite all three Republican primary challengers contending his public service has become private gain, and a congressional investigation of alleged insider trading in the works, Bachus garnered over 50 percent of the vote. One of his opponents received funding from a Texas-based PAC that opposes long-term incumbents of either party in nominally “safe” districts. Another opponent sponsored the state’s anti-immigration bill. Bachus wrote the bill requiring all new MH to have weather radios installed, and co-authored the SAFE Act, both of which are costly to the MH industry. Meanwhile, Mitt Romney, who MHProNews. has learned is said to have had an interest in a manufactured housing community, lost the primary races in Alabama and Mississippi to Rick Santorum.
