From Texas, The Huntsville Item reports the Huntsville City Council is considering a measure to restrict pre-HUD code homes from locating inside the city limits, but will grandfather in ones already there. It will allow existing homes to move to other parts of the city. An amendment to the motion would require the addition of skirting to existing homes, but council member Wayne Barrett added an amendment grandfathering in homes without skirting. Noting it would cost $1,000 to add skirting, he said, “This seems to be targeting the people least in a position to add improvements to their homes. I’m opposed to it if it’s 550 homes and I’m opposed to it if it’s 10.” Council members unanimously tabled the motion until the proposed amendments are added.
