The Community Action Partnership of North Alabama (CAPNA) announced local residents who have not been able to fully recover from the devastating April 27, 2011 tornadoes that wreaked havoc across a broad swath of the state may be eligible for new federal funding through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Disaster Recovery program.
Up to $25,000 in funding is available to help low-to-moderate income families repair, rehab or replace existing homes, including manufactured homes that suffered storm damage which has contributed to additional problems. The homes may be repaired or replaced providing the cost of the repairs exceeds more than half of the home’s current appraised value.
Repair issues that worsened or became apparent as a result of initial damage may qualify, as cullmantimes informs MHProNews. Weatherization issues as well as safety and health concerns can be addressed.
Vacant and secondary homes are not eligible, although in certain hardship cases, homes with higher incomes may qualify for assisance. ##
