SeekingAlpha reports on stocks positioned to take advantage of current needs and future improvements in the housing sector. The report notes that while single family housing is still struggling, multi-family housing starts are up almost 8% in July with FHA multi-family mortgages at a record high. Home fix ups as well as future upticks in new construction are reasons to consider firms such as RPM International, Masco, Valspar and Sherwin Williams. Berkshire Hathaway made the list for multiple reasons. They include new housing construction with new homes such as Clayton Homes and other manufactured and modular home builders. Berkshire Hathaway is also parent to Acme Brick. The Warren Buffett famed enterprise also has solid commercial roofing exposure in Johns Manville, a large flooring unit in Shaw. Berkshire has a premium paint line in Benjamin Moore. Add on insulation from Johns Manville for energy upgrades, and Berkshire is a decent play for home and building maintenance and very well positioned for increases in new home construction and sales.
